The Atlanta College of Art, Atlanta, GA Visual Studies (Pre-College Summer Art Book Camp): Students will learn the basic communication methods that artists use and will, in turn, use these tools to learn how to express their own ideas about the world. This learning will be accomplished through lectures, individual and group projects, reading and writing assignments, class discussion, critique and inquiry. Students will be encouraged to expand their own understanding of how art is made and to continue the practice of inquiry in art. Mixed Media Painting and Drawing: Ages 14 to adult, all levels. This class is an introduction to non-traditional painting techniques. Experiment with different painting and drawing media and techniques with acrylics, charcoal, pencil, conte crayon, pastel, ink, cut paper, fabric and stencils. Color theory and specific color applications, both representational and abstract, will be explored. Emphasis will be on investigating personal responses to particular painting and drawing methods and imagery, originality and experimentation. Supply list attached. Drawing: Students will learn that sketching is both a skill and a useful tool for developing the themes and concepts that will inspire them throughout their lives as artists. Objectivity and subjectivity will be a regular theme in projects and class discussions. This learning will be accomplished through in-class drawing assignments including anatomical studies, free-form drawing, investigating one’s imagination, class discussions and regular sketchbook drawing. Students will be encouraged to expand their own understanding of how art is made and to continue the practice of inquiry in art. |
The Quinlan Art Center, Gainesville, GA Mix It Up - Mixed Media Drawing and Painting: Ages 14 to adult, all levels. This class is an introduction to non-traditional painting and drawing techniques. There will be weekly demonstrations on techniques using acrylic paint, modeling paste, charcoal, pencil, conte crayon and other media. Color theory and specific color applications, both representational and abstract, will be explored. Emphasis will be on investigating personal responses to particular painting and drawing methods and imagery, originality and experimentation. Introduction to Pastels: Ages 14 to adult, all levels. This class is an introduction to the use of both oil and chalk pastels. Students will use this wonderful media to investigate subjects brought on by life observation (landscape and still life) and personal introspection (expressive use of color).
